Congratulations to The Right Reverend Carolyn Tyler Guidry, Presiding Prelate of the Eighth Episcopal District, AME Church and Chair of the Commission on Social Action. Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry was inducted into the Morehouse College, Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers. Each year the Martin Luther King International Chapel at the world-famous Morehouse College presents the Spiritual and Science awareness week. During this celebration the Dean of the Chapel inducts persons who have been nominated and approved through a rigorous process into the chapels highest honor.

Mrs. Lily Boyd, widow of an AME Church pastor in the Tennessee Conference of the Thirteenth Episcopal District and Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, celebrated her 105th birthday on Wednesday, March 30th.  Mrs. Lily Boyd is a member of Lee Chapel AME Church in Nashville, Tennessee, the Reverend Edward Lee Thompson, pastor; and she continues to work with the Women’s Missionary Society.
 
We are praising God for the birth of Simone Joyce Wharton, born Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 3:52 p.m.  Baby Simone Joyce Wharton weighed 7 pounds and 11 ounces. Baby Simone is the third grand-child of Pastor Joan L. Wharton - Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Glen Arm, Maryland, and the first child of Simeon and Danielle Wharton, officers of Empowerment Temple A.M.E. Church, Baltimore, Maryland.  The late grandmother Joyce D. Harrod would be very proud. 
 
Christina Marie Dickerson will receive a Ph.D. in History from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, during Commencement on May 13, 2011 at 9:00 A.M. Christina received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College in 2004 (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa).  She is an active member of Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Nashville and is the daughter of Dr. Dennis C. Dickerson (Historiographer/Executive Director of the Department of Research & Scholarship) and Mrs. Mary A.E. Dickerson.

Sister Bessie Wynn of Blountstown, Florida celebrated her 103rd birthday on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.  Sister Wynn is the widow of the late Rev. Samuel Wynn who passed several years ago and she has been an active member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Blountstown, Florida for much of her life. The current pastor at St. Paul is the Rev. Calvin Griffin.
 
Rev. Sherri Cowley Scott, Itinerant Elder in the West TN Conference of the 13th Episcopal District proudly announces the marriage of her oldest son, Lt. Mycel D. He will keep the trains running on time and oversee our network news coverage, as well as work in collaboration with regional news directors, MSNBC, CNBC, WRC and News Channel, and msnbc.com.  His proud parents are Rev. Lishers Mahone, Jr. (Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church-Joliet, IL) and Mrs. Betty Mahone (Retired Teacher - Joliet Central High School).

Presiding Elder J.F. McCloud celebrated his 95th Birthday on February 17th.   This giant of a man served the AME Church for over 50 years.  Because of his love for God and the people, he was successful as a Pastor and Presiding Elder. At age 95, Reverend McCloud truly is a patriarch and a Father of African Methodism.  The Southeast Alabama Conference honored Reverend McCloud and celebrated his Birthday on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Colby's Buffet in Ozark with an outstanding Birthday Celebration Luncheon.  His many family members and friends joined us in this glorious celebration.  Everyone was welcomed to the "Jesse Floyd McCloud Day."

Reverend Silas and Mrs. Betty Spann proudly participated in a US Army promotion ceremony in honor of their son.  Antonio Brown was promoted from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel on April 11, 2011 in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.  He has been selected and successfully served in numerous command and staff positions during his 22 years in the Army.  Additionally, he has completed two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq.  Colonel Brown is currently a student at the prestigious US Army War College where he is pursuing a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. Prior to the War College, he was the G-3 (Director of Operations) at the Army Contracting Command.  He is a 1988 graduate of South Carolina State University and also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration.   

  Rev. Carolyn Habersham received her M.Div. with a concentration in Pastoral Care from Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  Rev. Habersham is the Pastor of Greater Turner Chapel, Greensburg, Louisiana; she is the daughter of Rev. Ezekiel Habersham, retired Presiding Elder of the Fifth Episcopal District.  

The Rev. Jai S. Haithco, Sr. graduated from Turner Theological Seminary of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia with honors on Saturday, May 7, 2011 with a Master of Arts in Christian Education.  Rev. Haithco is the current pastor of Cosmopolitan A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, Georgia and the Director of Christian Education for the Sixth Episcopal District.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) and the Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology.

The Bahamas Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, congratulates Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Ranford Patterson on his election to the office of President of the Bahamas Christian Council.The Bahamas Christian Council is the official interface between the church and the government, and the Church and other civic institutions like the media.   To the public, including non-Christians, the Council’s position is seen as the formal position of the Church on national issues.The fact that Elder Patterson was elected by a unanimous decision, is a symbol of the respect and confidence he enjoys among his peers across denomination lines.   
  
On Friday, May 20th, Ms. Felecia Commodore will be graduating from University of Maryland, College Park with an M.A. in Higher Education Administration.  After graduation she will be continuing this fall to pursue a Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Her research area is HBCU leadership, governance, and administrative practices.   Felecia is a member of Reid Temple AME Church in Glenndale, Maryland and currently serves as the 2nd Episcopal District Lay Organization Young Adult Representative.  She is the daughter of Rev. Bedelia Commodore and Frank Commodore, Jr. 
 
Congratulations to Carolyn Clarene Cavaness, daughter of the Rev. Harold H. Cavaness and Ms. Karen H. Cavaness, who will graduate on May 20, 2011, from Union Theological Seminary in New York City with a Masters of Divinity Degree. Carolyn received in her second year the seminary's preaching award and also served as a member of the Seminary's Board of Trustees Development Committee. Carolyn is the former New Jersey Conference YPD President and was ordained last April an Itinerant Deacon.

We are proud to announce that Trenton Robinson Cokley graduated from Howard University on May 14, 2011, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Radio, Television and Film, with a minor concentration in vocal jazz.  Trenton's involvements included the "ReJOYce in Jesus" Fellowship, the Dean's List, Howard University Gospel Choir, and winning the title of the first "Howard Idol".  Trenton sings with the award winning jazz vocal ensemble, Afro Blue, and has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, performed with Cirque Du Soleil, and for the National Press Club in Washington, DC.  Trenton is the youngest son of Rev. Timothy and Mrs. Cynthia M. Cokley.  Rev. Cokley is the pastor of Allen Chapel AMEC in Sumter, SC, Lancaster District. 

Congratulations are in order for Superannuate the Rev. Weakly Chapman, Jr., who was granted a United States Patent #7,950,975 on 5/31/2011. Rev. Chapman is the inventor of the Simulation Play Kit provided for bracing and covering a person's hands and forearms to allow a person to walk on all fours to simulate an animal. Rev. Chapman is a retired Pastor in the Jackson-Meridian District of the South Mississippi Conference of the 8th Episcopal District.

Congratulations to Presiding Elder Emeritus and Mrs. Benjamin Booker, who celebrated forty (40) years of marriage on June 8, 2011. Presiding Elder Booker has served as a pastor and Presiding Elder in the Thirteenth Episcopal District for more than forty years. His lovely wife, Mrs. Nell Harvey Booker, past Corresponding Secretary of the Connectional WMS has been his partner in ministry as they have served throughout the states of Tennessee and Kentucky.

Je'Taime has received two scholarships The Shirley Inghram Scholarship and the District Four Masonic Scholarship.
  
Eugenia Michelle Brannon, daughter of Presiding Elder and Mrs. Eugene Brannon graduated Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from Little Rock Hall High School. Eugenia has been an involved student at Hall, engaging herself in volunteerism via the Key Club, and she was an inaugural graduate in the A.V.I.D. program. Jenny has been accepted at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and will prepare to focus on a degree in Science.
  
LaShara Danielle Lawrence, Granddaughter of Presiding Elder Jimmy and Evg. Bessie Thompson of the Celebrated Central District of the South Conference of the 11th Episcopal District graduated Saturday, June 4, 2011 from Bartow High School. We are very proud of her. She will attend Polk State College.

Dr. John F. and Mrs. Phyllis N. Green, President/Dean and First Lady of Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. Courtney will attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida and major in Business Administration.
 
Rashada La'Jerel Johnson graduated May 17, 2011 from Sidney Lanire High School in Montgomery, Alabama. She is the granddaughter of Rev. Olivett & Judy C. Johnson of the 11th Episcopal District, South Conference. Rashada was 4th in her class. She will attend Alabama State University. She is the niece of Rev. Helen Johnson Robinson of Bethel in Monticello, Florida. Her parents are Rev. O. J. & Robbin Johnson.
 
 Three Howard University graduates who took advanced coursework in public policy as undergraduates have achieved significant career milestones this spring. Noni Ellison-Southall (B.A. ’93) and Jonathan C. Augustine (B.A. ’94) were recently selected by the National Bar Association as 2011 “Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40.” The award recognizes African-Americans in the legal community who have achieved prominence and distinction in leadership, service and activism.

Commencement was held on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Wilberforce University Multiplex Center, with Dr. Leah Gaskin Fitchue, President, presiding. The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Edward L. Wheeler, President of Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana. Bishop Richard F. Norris, Presiding Prelate, First Episcopal District and Dr. Fitchue presented Dr. Wheeler with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Dr. Fitchue and Dr. Roger Evans, Payne Faculty Liaison, conferred the Master of Divinity degree upon  18 Payne Theological Seminary graduates.

(ABPN), that she has successfully passed the exam for board certification and is now an ABPN Diplomate in Psychiatry. Dr. Linda Nicole Green Harvey, a member of Turner Chapel AME Church in Marietta, Georgia,  is the daughter of Reverend Jerome Green, Esq., pastor of Gaines Chapel AME Church in Anniston, Alabama, and Dr. Linda Haynie Green, a physician in Internal Medicine. Dr. Harvey is married to Marques Harvey, who is an AME licentiate at Turner Chapel AMEC.

Alexander recently graduated from Newnan High School with honors and several unprecedented accomplishments. C.J. has been blessed to be accepted at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He is pursuing a dual degree in Music Composition and Film Scoring, which is a five year program.
