*A Celebration of 90 Years, Mother Doris Ann Roberts Porter - A Birthday Milestone
She served as First Lady of Hemingway Memorial AME Church for 33 years and during that time served as Advisor to Sisterhood; Sunday School Teacher; Organized and served as President of Lucy Hart Missionary Society; Coordinated Hemingway Family Retreat held at Bowie State University; Organized Annual Sisterhood and Youth Retreats; Reorganized the Acolytes; Organized the tape ministry to the sick and shut-in; and Organized the clothing ministry.

Mother Porter is a Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society and served as Chairperson, Celeste Duckette Area Tanner-Turner Memorial Committee; Member of Celeste Duckette Area Budget Committee; Chairperson, Washington Conference Branch Family Life Committee; and Chairperson, Washington Conference Tanner-Turner Memorial Committee. She was appointed to design hat for the 2nd Episcopal District Missionary Society and appointed to create the uniform for the 2nd Episcopal District Missionary Society to wear during the 1999 Quadrennial Meeting in Miami, Florida. She was also appointed to create a uniform for the 2nd Episcopal District Missionary Society to wear during the 2003 Quadrennial Meeting to be held in Texas. Mother Porter was elected President of the Washington Conference Life Members Fellowship and served as Life Member Delegate in 2007 and 2011.
Mother Porter was elected Recording Secretary, Washington Conference A.M.E. Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Elected President, Washington Conference A.M.E. Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Elected Recording Secretary, Interdenominational Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Elected President, Interdenominational Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Served as Parliamentarian; Chairperson, D.C Ministers’ Wives and Widows Retreat; Appointed Budget Chairperson, D.C. Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Member of Nominating Committee, Northeast Region; Elected Corresponding Secretary for International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Widows; Elected Statistician for International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Widows; and Life Member, International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Widows
Mother Porter’s community service involved being a Former Girl Scout Leader; Former P.T.A. President; Volunteering at Washington Hospital Center; Volunteering at the Southeast Meals On Wheels; Volunteering at the House of Ruth; and Serving on the National Council of Negro Women U.S. Administration on Aging Committee. She received numerous awards for her leadership and service.
Mother Porter has received 90th Birthday Citations from President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama; Washington, DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton; Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser; Washington, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson; Maryland Governor Wes Moore; Maryland Congressman Glenn F. Ivey; and North Carolina Governor Josh Stein.
Mother Porter’s favorite Scripture is Psalm 27. She is grateful to God for 90 years of life and living.

Following the successful defense of his doctoral dissertation:
“Pastoral Leadership and Community Engagement: Sexual Misconduct and Abuse and Its Ramifications in Families, Churches, and Communities,”
Dr. Price has been awarded the Doctor of Ministry degree from Payne Theological Seminary.

Today, we bear witness to that Scripture fulfilled through discipline, devotion, and divine calling.
We celebrate not only an academic achievement, but a sacred milestone — a deeper anointing for service, a broader capacity for shepherding, and a continued commitment to lead God’s people with wisdom, compassion, and courage.
