Rev. and Mrs. Robert D. Boykin celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 25, 2019.  Rev. Robert Boykin served over forty years in the North Carolina Annual Conference prior to his retirement. The couple resides in Wilmington, NC. They are the proud parents of Rev. Ronald A. Boykin, pastor of Seaton Memorial AME Church of Lanham, MD, William O. Boykin, General Board Member of the AME Church and Helena H. Highsmith.

*Mrs. Carla Maxwell Ray, First Lady of Wayman AME Church Frederick, Maryland releases new book entitled "The Five Pillars of A First Class Life"

First Lady Carla Maxwell Ray, the wife of Rev. Robert A. Ray, Pastor of Wayman AME Church Frederick, Maryland has released her new book entitled, The Five Pillars of A First Class Life, Smart steps to fiscal freedom and mission driven living.
Mrs. Ray stated that this book will serve as a guide to help individuals and families live purposeful, peaceful and financially secure lives. It offers practical tools and anecdotes that offer insight on how to accelerate healthy finances while finding and fulfilling what we are designed to do. The book is available on Amazon.
Carla Maxwell Ray’s goal in life is to glorify God by using her gifts for seeing possibilities and empowering others to achieve, advance and fund their vision for their lives, churches and organizations. As a Senior Generosity Strategist with Generis, Carla has two decades of experience generating funds for worthy causes. Carla’s experience includes large, medium and small churches and nonprofits across the country. She held positions in advancement at Spelman College, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and University of Maryland College Park. The common denominator in all of these experiences is her ability to successfully help raise the funds needed to advance the mission of each church and nonprofit organization.
She graduated Valedictorian in her undergraduate class at Lincoln University and also has an MBA from the University of Delaware. Carla and her husband live debt free and coach others in that path. Her passions for innovation, finance and healthy living positively impact her family, the Christian community and all those she encounters.

*The Swimming Journey of Dr. Herman O. Kelly, Jr, Pastor Teaches Students from the Classroom to the Swimming Pool


The Louisiana State University Division of Strategic Communications did a story on Dr. Herman O. Kelly, Jr., Pastor and Adjunct Instructor in the School of Education and African American Studies on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. The story highlighted his passion for teaching and summer. The story talks about his journey from a segregated swimming pool in Jacksonville, Florida to a State Senior Olympic champion in three events, 50 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, and the 100 Individual medley. The communications director talked about his bout with medical issues that his doctor said that must be addressed or serious conditions would develop. Dr. Kelly represented the State of Louisiana in the Senior Olympic Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he finished 22nd in the breastroke in the nation, 18th in the butterfly, and 18th in the Individual Medley. Dr. Kelly is now swimming a master’s Swimming team at Louisiana State University.
